Fig Jam/Filling

Updated: Nov 4, 2023

Fig season is here and what a better way to use them than make a jam or filling! Spread it over an aged cheddar paired with a cracker or sliced bread, or use it in cookies as a filling.

Figs are so versatile, meaning they can be perfect in a savory dish, a dessert, a jam, a filling or softened and paired with some cheese and toasted bread. One of my favorite ways to use figs is to boil them down and make a delicious jam.

Fig Jam/Filling

Yields: (1) 10 ounce Jar

Total time: 40 minutes

Ingredients

  1. 12 figs, washed, dried and quartered

  2. 1 tbsp lemon juice

  3. 1 tsp lemon zest

  4. 1/4 tsp salt

  5. 1 tbsp honey

  6. 2 tbsp water

Directions

  1. In a medium sauce pan, place all the ingredients inside.

  2. Bring the pot to a boil.

  3. Then down to a simmer. Use a wooden spoon to stir often and to smooth out the figs. This should take about 30 minutes for the mixture to come to a jam like texture. If it gets too thick, you can add a bit of water.

  4. Too smooth the jam out even more, you can use a food processor or a immersion blender.

  5. Let it cool a bit before transferring to a jar. Seal to tighten and store in the fridge.

  6. Enjoy!
