Taco Seasoning

Taco seasoning is so simple to make, all you need are a few seasonings that I am sure you

have already in your cupboard. My family and I love it with ground Turkey, but it's great

with chicken and beef!

Taco Seasoning is cheap, I get it, but if you already have the spices, why not make it yourself? Before

I realized how simple taco seasoning was to make, I would always forget to pick up a packet from

the store. One day when I was at the grocery store, I decided to stop and look on the

back of a packet. I noticed I had all of the ingredients that were listed. Since then, I have adjusted the recipe that I think tastes even better than the store bought packet.

Taco Seasoning

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1/4 tsp ground mustard

  • 1/4 tsp ground chili powder

  • 1 tsp ground garlic powder

  • 1-2 tsp salt (adjust according to your taste buds)

  • 1-2 tsp black pepper (adjust according to your taste buds)

Directions

  1. Pre-heat a large skillet pan on medium-high heat. Drizzle olive oil in the heated pan. Then, add your ground turkey. Cook the meat until fully cooked, then strain any grease from the meat. Bring the meat back to the pan.

  2. In a small bowl, combine the seasonings. Next, add the seasoning mixture to the cooked meat and then add about 1/4 cup of water. Use a wooden spoon to mix the seasoning mixture, water and meat together until well blended.

  3. Bring the pan to medium heat and let the meat simmer in the water and seasoning mixture. *Adding water to your pan will help tenderize the meat and blend the seasoning mixture. Let it simmer for about 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. You can cover the pan with a lid or splatter guard.

  4. If you notice the pan is getting dry, add a bit more water and continue to cook.

  5. Make sure to test taste the meat. You may want to add more salt, pepper, ground garlic, paprika or cumin...this will depend on your own taste buds.

  6. After about 7-10 minutes, bring the pan to low heat. At this point, the meat should be ready for making your tacos!
